Band Camp 2020 is on! Details Below!

After reading your comments from the poll and consulting with the administration; we have decided to move forward with band camp next week!

Before I go into the details, let me make this clear: every family has different needs and considerations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this, band camp this year is strongly encouraged, but optional. We will work on some marching fundamentals and prepare our show music for this year. Attending band camp will give all students (especially those new to marching band) a head start on the season as well as a chance to get back into playing, but your family's safety and comfort level should come first. If you (or your student) are planning on not attending (or only attending for a limited time) please let me know, as it will help us plan and provide everything we need for next week.

For camp this year, we will be rehearsing outside, spaced apart, and underneath two very large tents. Students should bring the following each day (*Required items):

  • Mask*
  • Water* (2 liters, 64oz suggested)
  • Hand Sanitizer*
  • Flip folder and lyre
  • Sunscreen

We are reducing our schedule as well:

For Monday, I'm asking for returning members only. This year is crazy different from anything we've experienced in the past, and we need help from our vets to get everything setup and ready for the next four days. Vets, please pack a lunch for Monday.

Tuesday-Friday we will rehearse the full group in the morning (8-11) then work with a smaller group in the afternoon. Tuesday will be Percussion, Wednesday Woodwinds, Thursday Brass, and Friday will be determined.

Lunches will be provided Tuesday through Friday. Our normal buffet style serving is not an option, but the Nutrition Group has been working with us and will be providing box lunches each day. We are waiving our normal 'band camp fee,' but ask that each student bring $15 which will cover all four lunches.

We do have some students who are new to band altogether; I am available tomorrow (Friday) or Monday after 3:00pm during the day for lessons to see which instrument you'd be interested in playing. Please e-mail me and we'll work out the finer details.

Lastly, a note to everyone;

Your responses and enthusiasm for what we do has been overwhelming. I love working with our students, and it warms my heart to hear so many who are excited to play again. As much as I miss everyone, the safety of the group comes first. Please, check your students' temperatures each morning, and stay home if you're feeling ill. For some of you, our safety measures may seem excessive, but we will adhere to them. My goal is to provide our students with as much opportunity as we can safely provide, and I ask for everyone's help in doing so.

Thank you all! I'm genuinely excited for next week. I'm sure there will be a million questions, but I'm happy to answer them all. E-mail me with any thoughts and concerns.
